About Regensburg

In Regensburg the visitor can sense the breath of two thousand years.

He encounters bygone ages in the city’s sights: a huge Roman gateway, a Carolingian palace, a mysterious Romanesque portal, a Gothic cathedral with soaring spires, Baroque and Rococo features glittering with gold, full of joy in life.

The ancient stone bridge, once considered one of the wonders of the world, has spanned the Danube for more than nine centuries now. History awaits you at every corner. This is how Regensburg presents itself, a city to gaze at it wonders.

Regensburg was a free imperial city for six centuries. In the “Alte Rathaus” (old town hall) the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation summoned Princes, Bishops and envoys to the Imperial Diet and later to the perpetual Parliament to counsel him. The streets of Regensburg are full of historical significance: since the 18th century, the fortunes of the princely House of Thurn und Taxis have been a decisive factor in the history of the city. The the greatest musical genius of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart visited Regensburg 1790. He was clearly impressed by Regensburg ’s hospitality and its historical charm.

Just as the Cathedral and the “Steinerne Brücke” are part of Regensburg, so is the Domspatzen choir. If you are fortunate and have the opportunity to hear them at Sunday service in the Cathedral, it is an experience you will never forget. Since 2006 Regensburg has gained the Title “World Culture Heritage”.
